Located several miles north of the great Jinshajiang River gorge, the towering Sanxia Lianxin Bridge allows locals to get across the Jinyang River gorge bypassing a series of steep switchbacks through the local town of Jinyang. During construction the crossing was known as the Jinyanghe Bridge.
The Sanxia Lianxin Bridge structure is special for having the tallest pier in China at 196 meters, surpassing the Hezhang Bridge in Guizhou Province by 1 meter. Among all bridge piers in the world, only Mexico's San Marcos Bridge and the Millau Viaduct in France are taller. The 757.7 meter long 2-lane bridge has a span configuration of 19.38+3x22+106+2x200+115+40 meters.
