With towering peaks and cascading waterfalls, the Baling River gorge is a perfect setting for any bridge crossing. The canyon may be most famous for the huge 1088 meter span suspension bridge that carries the G60 expressway from Guiyang to Kunming but the less known railway bridge has become just as important, allowing a new high speed artery to carry passengers at over 250 kilometers an hour from Shanghai in the east to Kunming in the west. The Balinghe high speed railway bridge is one of only 3 high bridges on the entire route. The other two located to the west are the record breaking 445 meter span concrete arch over the Beipanjiang River and the Chahe beam bridge which also has a main span of 168 meters.

Balinghe Bridge is a 526 meter long structure with a span configuration of 32 +88+168+88 +4x32 meters. An earlier design had a length of 546 meters before the approach spans were modified. The tallest pier measures 104 meters. The crossing is located at kilometer 845.
