The highest metro line bridge in the world, the Caijia Jialing River cable stayed span carries metro line 6 over 100 meters above the Jialing River. As China's largest inland city, Chongqing is experiencing rapid growth with a greater regional population of more then 30 million people. Large urban centers are usually quite flat with metro lines that do not require high bridges. Chongqing is not your typical urban metropolis as there are many deep gullies and ravines that surround the Jialing and Yangtze Rivers.

Since metro lines require fast starts and stops from many stations spaced closely together, a normal railway track metro system would have prohibited the steep grades required within the Chongqing region where normal train wheels can slip on steep rail grades. To overcome this problem, it was decided to make Chongqing's entire metro line use a monorail track where grades can be made much steeper as there is a wider contact between the rubber wheels and the concrete center beam.

The 180 meter tall towers of the Caijia Jialing Metro Bridge support a central span configuration of 60+135+250+135+60 meters with approach spans of 50 to 60 meters. The egg-shaped tunnels are the result of the tall monorail beam support.
