Changtanhe is one of two giant back to back viaducts that cross over the deep gorge of the Changtan River about 40 kilometers north of Guiyang City. The other viaduct just to the south is known as the Xintianpo Bridge and is also in the same height range of 180+ meters. Changtanhe Bridge has a main span configuration of 2 x 200 meters while Xintianpo Bridge has 3 spans of 200 meters. Changtanhe is actually two separate bridges each with 3 lanes of traffic. Maximum pier height is 140 and 134 meters on the parallel structures.

The newer Guizun expressway parallels the older G75 from Guiyang city to Zunyi city but with the greater capacity of a 6-lane route.

Although work was underway in 2015 on the Changtanhe Bridge, a land dispute has delayed the start of construction on the nearby Xintianpo Bridge and it will be interesting to see how the issue is resolved and how quickly they can build such a large bridge without delaying the opening of the south end of the Guizun expressway.
