The Haizhaigou UFO Glass Footbridge opened in 2023 as the longest glass pedestrian bridge in China and the third longest footbridge span in the world. Actually composed of two separate 600 meter long footbridges that crisscross in the middle, this unusual structure is highlighted by a circular glass platform in the center made to resemble a UFO. The X-shaped bridge deck itself is composed of a mesh grate supported by a double stack of three cables on either edge for a total of 12 cables per span. The deck is stiffened by a horizontal Warren truss as well as a number of wind cables.
The Haizhaigou scenic area also has an older, smaller glass suspension footbridge as well as a mountain water slide and zip line.
The inspiration for the dual X crossing suspension bridge design came from the much smaller Shiniuzhai Tiankongzhijing Glass Footbridge that opened in 2021.
