Houzihe River Bridge
Sandu, Guizhou, China
719 feet high / 219 meters high
722 foot span / 220 meter span
2010

The highest bridge along the last link of the Xiarong G76 expressway, the herculean Houzihe River bridge is a prestressed beam bridge with a bulky main span of 722 feet (220 mtrs) that sits atop two piers of 443 feet (135 mtrs) tall. In Europe, a bridge like this would be gracing the front covers of glossy engineering journals. Here in Western China, the structure is just another big bridge that will soon be doing its job of getting people from point A to point B. The new highway will extend from the Pacific Coast city of Xiamen to the western China city of Chengdu 1,426 miles (2,295 kms) away. There are several other high bridges nearby including the back to back Wuzeigou bridges. The name Houzihe means Monkey River.
