Indonesia’s highest bridge, the Cisomang Railway arch (98 meters high) is very similar to the New River Gorge bridge in the U.S. state of West Virginia but on a smaller scale. Like the West Virginia span, the top and bottom chords of the arch come together at the pin to share the load equally. The arch was constructed outward from both sides by the stayed cantilever method. The entire structure contains 1,830 tons of steel. The 500 foot (152 mtr) span is a replacement for a 1920s trestle that was on an alignment 82 feet (25 mtrs) away from the current bridge.
