One of the biggest viaducts along Japan's E1A New-tomei expressway, the Sanagawa Bridge is a multi-span prestressed concrete beam crossing more than 700 meters long. The twin structures have different span configurations with a maximum of 142 meters for the westbound lanes and 126 meters for the eastbound lanes. There are 10 piers with the maximum reaching 89 meters, among the tallest ever built in Japan. The octagon shaped cross section of the piers also have slits along the sides to add aesthetics.
