Yuanjiang Railway Bridge
元江大桥
Yuanjiang, Yunnan, China
730 feet high / 223 meters high
1,207 foot span / 368 meter span
2020

The second highest and largest span arch bridge in all of Yunnan Province after the Nanpanjiang Railway Bridge Qiubei, the giant crossing of the Yuanjiang (Red River) is also one of the highest railway bridges in the world at 223 meters. The span is the most significant structure on a new railway line from Kunming to the Vietnam border where it will eventually go all the way to Bangkok city.

Several crossing sites were studied including one route that would have required a 606 meter arch bridge that would have been the largest ever built. The arch that was finally chosen is wedged between two tunnels and has a span configuration of 96+368+96 +32 meters.

The railway bridge is located just 5 kilometers upstream of the huge Honghe Bridge crossing of the Yuan River on the G8511 expressway.
