The Zhongduhe Bridge crosses a tributary of the Jinshajiang River that has been submerged in water over 70 meters deep from the completion of the giant Xiangjiaba Dam across the river 70 kilometers downstream to the east.  The wide cable stayed bridge is part of the mountainous G4216 Yibin to Panzhihua Expressway that has several other high bridges and many long tunnels including the giant 510 meter span Xi'ninghe arch bridge.
