The lower reaches of the Yellow River are home to most of Northern China's largest railway crossings. Completed in 2019, the Sanmenxia Railway Bridge is another giant with 4 lines of high speed railway on the lower level and 6 lanes of expressway on the upper deck on piers as tall as 84 meters. The central portion of the river is crossed via 9 Warren truss spans of 108 meters.

The road deck rises 90 meters above the surface of the Yellow River during low flow season and a minimum of 81 meters high during floods.
