Gangou is the highest of the two large arch bridges on the Gui-Bi highway that opened in 2001 between Guiyang and Bijie. The two lane toll road has one of the greatest collections of high bridges in the world including Liuguanghe, the world’s highest beam bridge and Xixi and Luojiaohe, two of the world’s higher suspension bridges.

Gangou is a fairly conventional concrete arch bridge with a main span of 443 feet (135 mtrs) and two small side spans. The deep, V-shaped gorge offers spectacular views of a dry river canyon in a remote region of Guizhou province. Just a mile or so west of Gangou is the 600 foot (183 mtr) high Wuxi beam bridge.
