One of the longest span high level crossings in the world, the Kaizhouhu Bridge has a tower to tower distance of 1,100 meters that soars 220 meters above the reservoir formed by the giant Goupitan Dam across the nearby Wu River. The full height drop to the original level of the Qingshui River below the deck is approximately 300 meters.

The 1,257 meter long Kaizhouhu Bridge has a span configuration of 3x30 +1,100 +2x30 meters supported by towers 139 and 135 meters tall. Kaizhou refers to the name of the Lake below the bridge that was created by the Goupitan Dam.

18 kilometers upstream of the Kaizhouhu Bridge is the even higher and longer Qingshuihe Bridge on the Guiyang to Weng'an expressway that opened in 2015.

There are also two high beam bridges on the eastern end of the Kaiyang to Weng'an expressway called Baixi and Wudaohe.
