The Tanohata bridge crosses a deep canyon in Japan’s Iwate prefecture. Like so many Japanese arch bridges from the 1980s, Tanohata has 2 steel box beam ribs. Measuring 607 feet (185 mtrs) between hinges, the ribs support deck spans of 37.7 feet (11.5 mtrs) along with a steel ‘keystone’ 36 feet (11 mtrs) long.
