Tanagro 1974 Bridge
Ponte Tanagro 1974
Località Sperlonga, Campania, Italy
(262) feet high / (80) meters high
(262) foot span / (80) meter span
1974-2010

One of the few arch bridges that were constructed along the original A3 motorway that was completed in a Frankenstein-like fashion in bits and pieces throughout the 1960s and 1970s, the Tanagro Bridge had a healthy 36 years lifespan before it was bypassed and removed in 2010. The main rib of the arch followed a more natural cantenary curve with an unusually low arch span to rise ration of approximately 2:1.

The new Tanagro 2010 Bridge was built a few hundred meters downstream of the old concrete arch and consists of a pair of weathered steel beam spans of approximately 100 meters.

Several other nearby spans that were replaced in the early 2000s include Petroso, Lontrano, Sant'Onofrio and Favazzina beam bridges.
