Zhuchanghe Bridge
Zhuchanghe Bridge
Sanbanqiaozhen, Guizhou, China
735 feet high / 224 meters high
656 foot span / 200 meter span
2009
A giant new prestressed concrete beam bridge, the Zhuchanghe River bridge crosses an extremely deep, V-shaped valley near Sanbanqiaozhen on the amazing new G60 expressway that connects Guiyang and Kunming in Guizhou province. Unlike most of of China's tall beam bridges where the piers are either closed or split from the bottom to the top, Zhuchanghe has piers that are closed until the halfway point where they transition to the traditional double shaft configuration. The Hutiaohe and Houzihe Bridges in Guzihou province also have this pier design. The Zhuchanghe Bridge plan follows a continuous arc that gives the span the unique distinction of being the world's second highest curving bridge after the Millau Viaduct in France.
