The first of two high suspension bridges that were constructed to facilitate the massive Similco copper mining complex 10 miles (16 km) south of Princeton, British Columbia, Canada, the Similkameen Pipeline bridge is the older and lower brother of the higher and larger Similkameen Ore Conveyor bridge - the highest bridge ever built in Canada. Despite its smaller size, the original 950 foot (290 mtr) span is still high enough to rank second among Canada’s highest bridges at 420 feet (128 mtrs). Opened in 1972, the bridge is used for Tailings, slurry and water. Costing just a million dollars, it was designed by Canadian Bechtel and constructed by the Dominion Bridge Company of Vancouver. The larger Ore Conveyor bridge is located about half a mile (.8 km) south of the pipeline bridge.
