Geierlay Footbridge
Hängeseilbrücke Geierlay
Mörsdorf, Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany
(295) feet high / (90) meters high
1,181 foot span / 360 meter span
2015
Germany's longest span footbridge opened in 2015 near the small town of Mörsdorf. The Tibet-style span of 360 meters has no towers and follows a natural sag as it crosses high above a forested valley. A loop trail starts in Mörsdorf and leads guests across the bridge and down into a river valley before returning back into the town.
Opened in 2014, the spectacular Highline 179 Bridge is the longest span footbridge in Europe and the longest span Tibet-style suspension bridge in the world. The name comes from the bridge crossing over the famous route B179 that winds through and far beyond the borders of Tyrol, Austria. The location was chosen to allow easy access between the Ehrenberg Ruins and Fort Claudia.
