Japanese engineers have had a love affair with corrugated beam spans for many decades. The hybrid style uses steel for the walls of an otherwise concrete box beam span and is popular due to the reduction in weight. The Hishidagawa Bridge is a good example with multiple cantilevered spans as long as 124 meters.

The French built the first few corrugated beams spans in the 80s and 90s but the Japanese really took off with the style with well over 200 constructed since 1993.
