Huoshaopeng Bridge is a one of the tallest bridges on the mountainous G4216 Yibin to Panzhihua Expressway with piers reaching 132 meters. This pier style is similar to the Labajin, Heighigou and Tangjiawan Bridges on the G5 Expressway in Sichuan. Known as the SRC or steel reinforced concrete column, the concept is to combine the shear-wall strength of concrete but retain steel tubes for cross bracing and to maintain the skeletal strength of the piers to meet seismic requirements of bending and flexibility.

The route is also unique for having more large span arch bridges than any other highway on earth with a total of seven. These massive concrete and CFST arches include Xi'ninghe, Dahegou, Shangwujiao, Xisujiaohe, Yuewulada, Liutonghe and Daheba Bridges.

The area just north of Huoshaopeng Bridge is home to nearly 10 high bridges that have all been partially submerged in the reservoir behind the Xiangjiaba Dam across the Yangtze River (Jinsha Jiang) 70 kilometers downstream to the east including Xi'ninghe Bridge, the local route X163 Xi'ninghe Bridge, the S307 Xi'ninghe Bridge, Daqiaoxiang, Jinshajiang Bridge Xinshi, Jinshajiang Nan'an Bridge, Zhongduhe Expressway Bridge, Zhongduhe G213 Bridge and the Yangliuba Bridge.
